Gifts bring joy to home residents

Kind hearted friends have brought some Christmas cheer to care home residents in Spalding.

Trudy Roberts and Karen Dakin used social media to ask friends and family for donations of chocolates and toiletries which they packed into 222 parcels and delivered to care home residents.

Initially the pair, who met through work, were going to give the parcels to residents with no or little family contact but donations exceeded expectations meaning they were able to include all residents.

The parcels for Tanglewood Cedar Falls were accompanied by 40 Christmas cards handwritten by brothers Freddie (6) and Daniel Fisher (4) whose mum Emma is a friend of Trudy’s.

The boys put chocolate coins inside and said they wanted to “be kind and make people smile”.

Trudy said: “The generosity from people has been overwhelming.

“My father is in Tanglewood and we have not been able to see him as much.

“This has effected all residents and we wanted to bring some cheer. We have so enjoyed doing this, and cannot thank people enough for all these donations.”

Karen and Trudy, who both live in Spalding, have been out delivering the parcels to residents in Spalding at Tanglewood Cedar Falls at Little London, Southernwood House in Matmore Gate and St John’s Care home in Hawthorn Bank and to Brun Lea in Pinchbeck.

Trudy added: “The parcels were delivered last weekend. We had to go separately because of COVID. Everyone was over the moon and touched by everyone’s kindness.”
