Get scrubbed up for NHS staff

A group making scrubs for NHS staff is on the lookout for donations of clothes and people to help sew up in South Holland.

For The Love of Scrubs Lincolnshire was set up by Pilgrim Hospital nurse Ashleigh Linsdell after an appeal to make the gowns used to prevent infections because the hospital was “severely short of scrubs”.

Within a few days over 15,000 people across the UK had signed up to help create the clothing.

Now the group has set up a JustGiving page to help raise money to ensure people can make the scrubs.

They’re also looking for sewers locally to help put the gowns together as well as clothes.

And an ‘urgent appeal’ has been made in South Holland through the group Ella’s Project looking for duvets covers and sheets to help make the equipment needed.

Ashleigh said: “When members joined – in the very beginning – they understood that they were paying for the materials themselves as a way of giving back to our amazing NHS.

“Some couldn’t afford much but put in orders which would produce fibre pairs of scrubs.

“As we all know, things are difficult for a lot of people throughout the UK financially.

“We are overwhelmed that so many people want to help but don’t have the finances to buy the materials.

“We would love to be able to put together ‘kits’ to enable members nationwide to join in and produce the scrubs our doctors and nurses need.

“It’s not just in hospitals, many health centres need them too as they help conquer COVID-19.”

The group is also on the lookout for sewers.

On the For The Love of Scrubs Facebook page on Saturday a picture of 500 sets of materials ready to be sewn up was posted.

It said: “Sharpen your needles scrubbers, we can do this.

“If you want to sew and live in or around any of the following areas Sutterton, Holbeach, Spalding, Boston, Gosberton, Donnington, Swineshead, Wyberton, Kirton, Frampton etc, as we can’t travel further.”

With regards the ask for materials via Ella’s Project, a statement said: “We currently require washed/clean old duvet covers and sheets (not duvets) that can be turned into protective scrubs, gowns, masks, aprons and bags for our local NHS staff and teams.

Items should be in bags and can be dropped into the marked collection box outside 20 Edward Road, Spalding PE11 1NP.

“Any queries please contact our CV Scrub appeal co-ordinator Diane on 07570 809104.”
