‘Fuming’ Hayes slams Holbeach United’s showing and demands a reaction

Seb Hayes couldn’t hide his frustration after seeing hard-working Rothwell Corinthians end Holbeach United’s eight-game winning streak on Saturday.

Goals from Jordan Henson (23) and Lewis O’Dell (61) sank the Tigers at Seargents Lawn.

But it was the performance that bothered boss Hayes, as his side failed to create a single decent opening as they slumped to only a second ChromaSport UCL Premier Division loss of the season.

He said: “I’m fuming. They outworked us and out-battled. We were very, very poor – and I’m not having it.

“Ricky Drury had nothing to do all game but pick the ball out of his net.

“That’s no slight on Rothwell, they did all of the things we’ve been doing well this year.

“They had two chances and scored both of them. We created nothing at all.

“I’ll be honest, I was absolutely raging with the lads afterwards. It was one of, if not the worst, performances I’ve been involved with as a manager.

“It was certainly the worst performance of my time here.

“I don’t know if the lads were complacent because of the good run, but we’re not good enough to stop doing the basics and expect to win.

“The warning signs were there against Boston Town, we won but didn’t play all that well.

“I’m not going to blame the fact we were missing a few players, either.

“Our side was packed full of experienced UCL Premier Division players and we should have performance much better.”

Hayes added that he is “demanding” a performance in tonight’s (Wednesday) Lincs FA Senior Trophy quarter-final clash with Deeping Rangers at Carter’s Park (7.45pm).

Will Bird and Ollie Medwynter should return to the squad for that derby.

Tigers: Drury, Tinkler, Cartwright, Braithwaite, Jackson, Avis (Harker), Warfield, Dougill (Davies), Griffiths (Smith), Zuerner, Leckie.

Attendance: 70.
