Former Holbeach clubs donate thousands of pounds to The Meadows Day Centre

The organisers of two Holbeach clubs which have disbanded were able to donate thousands of pounds to local charities.

Holbeach Friday Club and Holbeach Pop In presented a cheque for £4,500 to Patrick Skells – chairman of the trustees at The Meadows Day Centre, Spalding.

Two further cheques were also given to Patchett’s Lodge and Holbeach Hospital.

Pat Harland, from both of the clubs, said: “It is a sad time for us as it means the end of 67 years for the Holbeach Friday Club and 49 years of the Holbeach Pop In, however, it is also a pleasurable time for us to be able to help the clients of Holbeach Hospital and Patchett’s Lodge both having helped many of Holbeach’s elderly residents and The Meadows Day Centre who took us under their umbrella when the clubs were facing difficult times several years ago.”

The donation will really help each charity as it will allow the hospital to purchase a projector which it has wanted for some time and it will help towards the care and support of all of the clients at The Meadows.

All staff and clients would like to say a very big thank you for the clubs support and very generous donation.

The Friday Club was established in 1954 to give pensioners somewhere to meet. Demand saw another club, The Pop In, launched in 1973.

But the committee of both groups couldn’t find anyone to take over their running and the clubs ended as a result.
