Pinchbeck United reached the final of the Hinchingbrooke Cup for the first time in their history after thrashing Peterborough Northern Star 5-0 on Tuesday night.

An own goal (42) towards the end of the first period at the Branch Bros Stadium gave the Knights a 1-0 half-time lead, before strikes from Nick Jackson (46), Lee Beeson (51) and Harry Limb (78 and 90) rounded off the rout.

The Future Lions UCL Premier Division high-fliers, who were promoted as Division One champions last season, now have a final against Godmanchester Rovers to look forward to at the end of the season.

Player/boss Ian Dunn couldn’t have been happier with his side.

He said: “We didn’t really settle in the first half, but I always felt that we looked the most likely team to score.

“Lee Beeson’s delivery was superb all night and maybe we needed that scrappy own goal from his cross to settle us down.

“Nick then got the second straight after half time and before we knew it, we were 3-0 up five minutes later.

“You could see that the pressure just lifted and we were causing them all sorts of problems.

“To be honest, that second half was the best we’ve played for a long time – it was a joy to watch.

“If we can take that mentality into the rest of the season, I’ll be very happy.

“Obviously we’ll now look forward to the final, it’ll be something to look forward to.

“Ever since Allan Ross (assistant manager) and I came here, we’ve won a trophy every year.

“To win a trophy in our first season at this level would be a great achievement – and if we can couple that with a top six finish, we’ll have had an amazing season.”

Pinchbeck are back in UCL Premier Division action on Saturday when they welcome Wellingborough Town to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field (3pm).

They are also at home against Harborough Town the following Wednesday (7.45pm).

Suspended defender Jason Field will miss the clash with Wellingborough, while on-loan striker Limb returns to parent club King’s Lynn Town after Saturday’s fixture.

Dunn would love to keep the in-form Limb for a longer period, but admits that the ball is in Lynn’s court at this stage.

Knights: Lovelace, Wilson, Cartwright, Shipley, Jackson, West, Beeson (Ross), Vince, Maltby (Beck), Limb, Edwards (Adams). Not used: Dunn.
