‘Favourites’ Moulton Harrox eye fifth Lincs Junior Cup title ahead of Coningsby clash

Moulton Harrox are bidding to lift the Lincs FA Junior Cup for a fifth time tonight (Friday).

ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division side Harrox, who are appearing in their ninth county final and won in 1996, 1997, 2005 and 2013, take on Coningbsy at Skegness Town’s Vertigo Stadium (7.30pm).

It’s the first of two finals for Nigel Steadman’s side, who also have a PFA Senior Cup showdown with title rivals Netherton United to look forward to next month. Moulton’s Stuart Manning said: “I think we have to accept that we are strong favourites.

“Without wishing to sound disrespectful, most people consider the PDFL to be stronger than the Boston League.

“We’ll have to see what kind of team they put out.

“From our point of view, we’ve had a few tough results against Netherton, but winning the Lincs Cup for a fifth time would certainly make up for that.

“We’re still hopeful of doing a treble, but we know that we need favours from other sides in the league now.

“This competition is in our hands and we’ve got pretty much everyone available – albeit having a few players with knocks.”

Opponents Coningsby are fourth in the Premier Division of the Boston Workforce Unlimited Saturday League.

They were actually thrashed 5-1 by Wyberton in the quarter-finals and went down 3-2 to Long Sutton Athletic in the second round – but were reinstated to the competition both times.

Harrox shouldn’t take them lightly, though, with a 3-1 victory over much-fancied Shape Changers in the last four a real stand-out result.
