Father and son combination rule at Bourne Kart Club GP

Racers with a need for speed enjoyed Bourne Kart Club’s Grand Prix Meeting as eight different classes were on show.

With the meeting kindly sponsored by Travis Perkins of Spalding and Bourne, three heats were held in the morning to give drivers their grid positions for the Grand Prix.

Following some very close racing in all classes, the winners were: 70s – 1st Jack Goodliffe; 2nd Harry Chappell. 90s – 1st Joshua Ling; 2nd Bailey Harker; 3rd Lewis Ivatt. 125 2 stroke – 1st Stuart Willson; 2nd Kevin Smith; 3rd Daryn Baker. 125 4 stroke juniors – 1st Ellie Lawrence; 2nd Michael Clarke; 3rd Sam Ward. 125 4 stroke seniors – 1st Ricky Ivatt; 2nd Ben Ward; 3rd Steve Goodliffe. 175s – 1st Steve Willson; 2nd Steve Elsom; 3rd Jason Burkitt. 250 2 stroke – 1st Robert Mastin; 2nd Simon Brown; 3rd Curtis Seymour. 250 4 stroke – 1st Darren Ling; 2nd Lee Ivatt 3rd; Mark Williams.

Father and son pair Steve and Stuart Willson both retained their GP championship from 2013, with Steve having won the 175 class for a fifth consecutive years.

Following the GP, a “Champion of Champions” race was held, where the top three from each class raced together.

The winner in the 70s/90s was Joshua Ling, in the 125 4 stroke juniors it was Ellie Lawrence and for the Gearbox class, the winner was Stuart Willson – who took the 2013 title from his dad, Steve.

Every meeting has a junior of the day award, with Jack Goodliffe the recipient this time.

The GP was a fitting end to what has been a great season racing on grass, with kart numbers up slightly on the previous meeting and plenty of support from family and friends.

The season closes with a presentation evening and dinner dance in November and starts again in April.
