John Chand reckons that Graham Drury was the ‘perfect choice’ after revealing that the former Stamford and Boston United chief will be his co-manager at Holbeach United next season.

Drury, who has also bossed Corby Town, agreed to join the Tigers on Thursday after talks with Chand.

Holbeach had been searching for a new joint chief after Steve Appleby performed a U-turn on a return to Carter’s Park three weeks ago.

And Chand couldn’t be happier with the appointment of Drury – a man he claims has one of the best non-league contacts book in the business.

“It’s all done and dusted and I couldn’t be happier,” said Chand, who returned to Holbeach a month ago following a year away from football. “For the club and myself, Graham is the perfect choice.

“It was impossible for me to do the job single-handedly, so I had been looking for the right person to come here.

“In Graham, we have that man. He has one of the best contacts books around and has done it from this level all the way up to Conference North.”

Chand also told The Voice that he and Drury are both winners and will make no bones about their ambition to be challenging at the top of the UCL Premier Division next season.

The duo are also targeting a big run in the FA Vase, with neither interested in enduring a season in the doldrums.

“We’re very much the same,” added Chand. “We both want to win and wouldn’t be here if that wasn’t in our plans.

“When we sat down last week there was no talk of mediocrity. I wouldn’t have come back if I didn’t think the club could challenge and Graham certainly wouldn’t have come here if that was the case.

“We’re in regular contact and are both really sinking our teeth into the task in hand now.

“I’m sure Graham has already opened up that big contacts book of his, while I’ve got plenty of irons in the fire.

“I’m delighted with how things are going and really can’t wait to get going now.”

Chand added that a deal to bring Jamie Stevens back to Carter’s Park has been verbally agreed, with paperwork expected to be signed tomorrow (Tuesday).

But one man not making a return to Holbeach is title-winning winger Mitch Griffiths. The versatile ace, who was one of the Tigers’s star men during Chand’s first stint at the club, has opted to join home-town club Sleaford Town after leaving Deeping Rangers.
