The lockdown may be easing but a Spalding group is continuing to work with others to provide essential items such as PPE where needed.
Ella’s Project led by practicing nurse Mark Le Sage has been busier than ever with a host of projects.
And it’s received a financial boost after Coun Angela Newton and Elizabeth Sneath provided it with some of their allocation of county council funding to go to projects helping with their communities during the lockdown.
Working with the Spalding branch of the For The Love Of Scrubs group they’ve been able to provide 75 sets of the needed clothes for those that work at St John’s Care Home in Spalding.
A number of key workers, including those at several schools and hospitals, have been given face masks created thanks to Keris Moore and Luke Atkin who have created them using their 3D printers at home.
All local surgeries, the Johnson Hospital and ambulance and fire stations have been the recipients of hand creams and sanitisers thanks to the endeavours of Simon Lord, of Lord’s Collectables, and Avon representative Louise Neal.
And to provide that extra smile, there’s also been cakes donated as baked by Janet Bowden.
Mark originally set up Ella’s Project to collect clothes for young people and it is named after his daughter.
The project has been extra busy in recent weeks though.
“We have worked non-stop since lockdown began trying to support our NHS and keyworkers with essential items,” Mark said.
“Of course none of this would have been possible without the generosity and support of the people and residents of South Holland.
“A big thanks goes to The Spalding Branch of For The Love of Scrubs and to Diane Virden, Victoria Gray and Chloe Spinks for organising all the local sewing community who have done the most amazing job.
“Thanks also to Sandra Sharman from J&M Fabrics who very kindly offered to cut up 120m of fabric into useable size pieces to save our sewing teams some work.
“Chloe is about to take over from Diane as the local Scrub coordinator so if anyone has any spare cloth or duvet covers to donate please contact her on 07908 912298.
“Thanks to Simon Lord and Louise Neal, Keris Moore and Luke Atkin and of course we were all very happy to deliver the amazing cakes by Janet Bowden which put a smile on everyone’s face.”
“We have been lucky to receive some funding from county councillor Angela Newton and are waiting to hear from three other Conservative county councillors to see if they will help support this local initiative.
“We are very grateful for all the support we have received from everyone over the last six months but as we see spikes beginning to appear across the country it is obvious that our work is sadly far from over.”
