Dunn’s delight as Pinchbeck United hit ten against higher-graded St Andrews

Ian Dunn dubbed his Pinchbeck United side “a joy to watch” after they walloped St Andrews 10-1 in their first-ever ChromaSport UCL KO Cup game on Saturday.

Hat-tricks from Andrew Tidswell (25, 28 and 45) and Liam Ogden (37, 87 and 90), plus strikes from Ollie Maltby (2 and 76), Josh Smith (18) and Jack Withers (47) fired UCL Division One side Pinchbeck to an incredible victory over the top tier opponents at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Having struggled for goals in recent weeks, player/boss Dunn was impressed with the ruthless streak shown by his charges.

“It’s funny, we’ve been banging on about not being clinical enough,” quipped Dunn. “But we took pretty much every chance on Saturday.

“People will look at the result and think they had a weak side out, but I understand it was essentially the same side that beat Sleaford the week before.

“Every time we attacked, we just looked like scoring – and some of the goals were incredible… it’s just a shame we couldn’t have shared them out a bit and got a few more in our previous games! Our pace and movement was just too much for them and it was a very impressive win.

“Maybe they looked at us and thought they’d be able to cruise to a win, I don’t know. But credit to the lads, we were absolutely brilliant.

“Watching them was a joy to behold.

“We decided to give Andrew Tidswell a go up front and brought Tyler Wright into midfield. Both changes really worked and it was a great performance.”

Pinchbeck looked comfortable from the get go, and certified that by scoring a couple of early goals through Maltby and Smith, writes JAMES TRANTER.

Then came two quick goals in three minutes from Tidswell, one a simple tap in from a poor save by the keeper who put the ball into his path, then his second was a trademark free-kick into the far bottom corner.

Ogden then got in on the scoring with a fine drive past the keeper before, right on half time, Tidswell rounded the keeper and passed the ball into the net for his first half hat-trick.

The first five minutes of the second half saw another two goals, but with one going to St Andrews.

The first was via a Pinchbeck corner which found Withers unmarked six yards out. He coolly side-footed the ball past the keeper.

St Andrews’ first and only goal of the game, came from a deep cross which was headed in at the back post. Indeed, even though they were 7-1 down, the visitors started to play some good football – albeit a little too late for them.

Play was pretty even from then on but, 15 minutes from the end Maltby grabbed his second of the game after a brilliant cross from Tidswell to find him at the back post.

After that, the Knights had a lot of the play. A ball into Ian Dunn, who calmly nodded the ball down for

Ogden, allowed the latter to fire home his second of the game into the bottom corner from about 20 yards out.

Then, with the game coming to a close in the last few minutes, Ogden joined Tidswell in the hat-trick club by scoring a wonderful third which ended up in the top corner and brought up double figures for Pinchbeck.
