Dunn happy with effort despite seeing Knights fall five points from safety

Shepshed Dynamo 2 Pinchbeck United 1

Another spirited performance from Pinchbeck United went unrewarded on Tuesday night as title hopefuls Shepshed Dynamo edged them out 2-1.

In a game played at Aylestone Park, Jake Betts put Uhlsport UCL Premier Division title favourites Dynamo ahead on 33 minutes.

But the expected the deluge of goals failed to follow, with the Knights soon pulling themselves level just before the break when Ndreqim Krashiqi netted a superb long-range free-kick.

That’s how it stayed all the way up until the 70th minute, when Liam Hurst bagged the winner for Shepshed, sending them second in the process.

Worse news was to follow for Pinchbeck, with relegation rivals Sleaford Town pulling off a shock 4-2 win at Lutterworth Town.

That leaves Ian Dunn’s side, who haven’t won in the league since August, some five points from safety.

Player/boss Dunn said: “For 70 minutes it looked like we might get something. Shepshed, along with Quorn, are the best side I’ve seen this season.

“But we did well. I don’t feel like we had to defend for long periods and their goals came from individual errors, which you can’t account for.

“I can’t ask for much more from the lads. People would have expected us to get hammered here, but I go away happy despite the defeat.

“The lads worked their socks off for me.”

It doesn’t get any easier for Pinchbeck on Saturday as Loughborough University, another of the title contenders, visit the Sir Halley (3pm).

The Knights then visit Lutterworth Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm) as they look to emulate Sleaford’s win there.

Knights: Woolley, Worthington, Kacirek, Burton (Fieldhouse 79), Gilbert, Eyes, Gaukroger, Bingham, Bayly (Shores 84), Krashiqi, Kingston. Not used: Dunn.
