Dunn eyes healthy Pinchbeck United lead at Christmas ahead of Melton Town trip

Ian Dunn has challenged his red-hot Pinchbeck United side to keep their amazing form going and build up a commanding lead at the top of the ChromaSport UCL Division One table.

The Knights are six points clear of the rest after winning eight games in and row, taking 33 points from the last 36 available, following their victory over Buckingham Town last weekend.

This Saturday sees Pinchbeck visit mid-table Melton Town (3pm), who have performed better against the stronger sides this season.

Player/boss Dunn, who admits that his side are taking things one game at a time, insists that the leaders want Melton to bring their ‘A’ game.

“We’ve got to keep our run going,” said the experienced striker. “I’ve seen Melton and they have the ability to raise their game against the league’s leading sides.

“On their day, they are certainly capable of hurting us. But I think we’d relish them having a good go against us.

“We’ve performed well against the better sides too and have taken what they have thrown at us.

“We’ve got a strong squad to pick from and will chose accordingly – but the 11 that started last weekend all impressed.

“We’re in a great position and, of course, it’s one game at a time as far as I’m concerned.

“But we have to be realistic and say that, if we keep this run going, we could be 15 points clear by Christmas – which would be incredible.

“It’s pie in the sky stuff, of course, but the games between now and Christmas are very winnable. That has to be the aim for us.”

Pinchbeck are again without left-sided defender Luke Gardner and midfielder Edgaras Buzas through injury, but young striker Oli Shackleton – on a work experience loan from Peterborough United – will again feature after coming off the bench on Saturday.

Dunn added: “I thought Oli did really well.

“That was his first-ever game in men’s football, but he put himself about and wasn’t fazed.

“For his development, it’s probably best that he starts off by coming off the bench.

“But the plan is obviously for him to eventually start games for us.”
