District council accused of ignoring residents over Gosberton homes plan

Unanimous councillor support was given for the principle of 46 homes being built on a Gosberton paddock.

The decision at South Holland District Council’s planning committee meeting on February 1 came despite some concerns from locals over perceived over-development of the village and increased traffic worries.

Stephen Catney, agent on behalf of applicants Mr and Mrs Dennis, spoke at the meeting and referred to the village having been identified as a sustainable location for 270 new homes.
Detailed proposals for the types of homes and layout of the site in High Street will be decided upon at a later date.

Committee vice-chairman Coun James Avery (Pinchbeck and Surfleet) said: “I welcome the good use of an appropriate site.”

A condition of the approval is a financial contribution to education of around £240,000 and a third of the site to be affordable homes.
Nine objections and two letters of concern were received from nearby residents.

Following the meeting, a resident, who did not want to be named, said: “The district council seems hell-bent on turning small villages into mini towns.
“Gosberton is already a bottleneck for traffic and both schools and doctors surgery are over-subscribed.

“How does a village with over 200 new houses sustain all that new traffic, 400 extra cars for instance?
“The parish council doesn’t care and neither does the district council. No one is listening to residents.

“The district council is not talking for us who actually live here. Tearing up agricultural land to build houses that the village cannot sustain.
“There does need to be homes built here but not to the extent nor the number of homes the district council is intending.”

A decision has yet to be made on a separate application by D N and N Casswell and Mrs F Rozier for 80 homes on an agricultural field next to York Gardens.
