Defender Dan will be a Worth-y addition for Holbeach

Holbeach United number two Tom Roberts has expressed his delight at re-signing talented right back Dan Worthington.

The young gun impressed during his brief loan spell from Boston United last term – an 11-game run which earned him the Tigers’ young player of the year gong.

Worthington has agreed to link up with Holbeach in pre-season once again, although he’s still on the Pilgrims’ books.

It’s a move that works for both parties, with the full-back earning more experience and the Tigers getting a ready-made replacement for Jonny Allen, who is expected to return from his broken leg at Christmas time.

Roberts said: “Dan really impressed everyone last season. He was one of the stand-out performers at the end of the season.

“He’ll be joining us for pre-season training – and it’ll be an absolute pleasure to have him back in the fold.

“He gives us a great option at right back, especially with Jonny still sidelined for a while. It’s win, win for Dan and us really.”

Having been very active in the transfer market over the close season, Holbeach are still looking to make one or two more additions.

Top of their wish list is a winger, with Roberts and boss Darren Jarvis hoping to speak to two potential targets this week.

Also on the Tigers’ radar are Jake Clitheroe (ex-King’s Lynn Reserves), George Zuerner (ex-Lincoln United) and Jake Farrell (Spalding United Reserves).

The trio will all link up for pre-season training at Carter’s Park on June 30 (7pm), ahead of Holbeach’s first friendly at Swaffham Town on July 11.

Two players not signing on are long-term targets Luke Wilson and Aaron Eyett, who will remain with Wisbech Town and Boston Town respectively.

Roberts added: “It’s been a busy summer, but we had to be pro-active.

“We’re still in the market for a wideman and have two targets. Wilson and Eyett are staying loyal to their clubs, which is to be commended. We’ll monitor both players and see if anything changes.”

Meanwhile, Holbeach have been drawn at home to UCL Division One outfit Bugbrooke St Michaels in the UCL KO Cup on a date TBC.
