Decision on annexe deferred

An application to build a one bedroom annexe at a Holbeach house where people with mental health issues or learning difficulties live has been deferred to ask police about reports of call outs to it.

The Care Management Group’s (CMG) application for White Lodge on Spalding Road came before South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee last week.

Speaking in support of the application CMG’s Barbara Banuls said: “Self contained residential units provide more suitable living accommodation to certain residents who are cared for the care home due to the nature of their mental health capability or their sometimes challenging behaviour that can sometimes have a negative effect on the other residents in the house.

“The development intends to provide care for one additional person that requires attention and support to promote their independent living as much as possible.

“We hope that the local community can support the great work the carers and managers provide to the residents of this service which in turn improves their living condition and well-being.”

The application was objected to by four parish councillors, Holbeach Parish Council and several local neighbours on the grounds of noise and disturbances, concerns over parking outside and the look of the building.

Neighbour Chris Styles said: “The existing HMO has been in operation since 2019.

“Police have been called to disturbances on several occasions since.

“The applicant’s submission highlights the disruptive nature of the residents which is already very apparent to neighbouring properties.

“Placing the resident with the most challenging behaviour away from other residents and closer to neighbouring properties will lead to further disturbances at all hours.”
