Cricketing legends including Gordon Greenidge, Devon Malcolm and Chris Lewis are set to descend on Moulton Seas End for a charity match in August.

The Lashings World XI, whose numbers include a host of famous cricketers, will take on a Batten Disease Family Association (BDFA) XI skippered by Spalding Town Cricket Club’s Mat Gil at Seas End Hall on August 9.

Gill has arranged the match as a family he is close to who have two sons with the disease that effects the nervous system.

The first names announced to play include West Indian Greenidge who played in 108 tests and 128 ODIs scoring over 12,700 runs.

Also announced are England legends Philip DeFreitas, Malcolm, Lewis and spinner John Emburey.

Former England spinner Chris Schofield is the Lashings captain and other former professionals signed up for Lashings this season who could play include Pakistanis Saqlain Mushtaq and Yasir Arafat, West Indians Tino Best and Shivnarine Chanderpaul and former England stars Nick Compton and Monty Panesar.

“I’m beyond excited,” said Gill. “The chanced to see and against these cricketing legends is incredible.

“I think Devon Malcolm off a medium run up is going to be quicker than most players will have experienced for.

“I’m excited about playing Chris Lewis. For me he’s one of the best cricketers England has produced and growing up I always wanted to bowl and bat like him.”

The Lashings have been set up for charity cricket matches likes this and the 20 over match itself will be part of a full day of fund-raising for the BDFA.

It’s hoped the legends will be able to put on coaching sessions for any youngsters who attend.

There will also be a dinner with the chance to share a table with one of the former internationals.

Matt continued: “BDFA is a fantastic cause that makes a huge difference to people’s lives. We can’t wait to welcome Lashings XI and local supporters to this fund-raiser at such a beautiful ground.”
