Council to build more new homes in Spalding

South Holland District Council is to build 20 more new affordable homes at the former Law’s Yard in Spalding.

Following on from last week’s news that it had bought eight homes to rent and part-own, Willow Walk is being built in Commercial Road alongside Cross Keys Homes (CKH) and Minster Property Group.

The district council says work is set to commence this month with a few to a 2020 completion.

A spokesman said: “Five of the properties will be available for shared ownership, offering a chance for households to get onto the property ladder by buying between a 25 and 75 per cent share of their home and paying rent on the remaining share.

“The remaining properties will be available to rent and will be allocated to those on the district council’s Housing Register.”

It follows on from last week’s news that the council was buying 18 affordable properties from Ashwood Homes and other developments.

Housing provider Cross Keys Homes has secured a grant of £870,000 from Homes England to support the development, with the remaining cost of the homes being met by CKH.

Claire Higgins, chief executive of Cross Keys Homes, added: “For us, the goal is to deliver the affordable homes that people need in the places they want to live. We’re seeking more and more land-driven opportunities like this where were we can maximise the number of affordable homes we’re building to really tackle the shortage of appropriate homes available.

“It’s great to be renewing our partnership to deliver these homes in South Holland and we’ll be working with a fantastic local contractor, Burmor Construction, who have delivered excellent results for us elsewhere in the region.”
