Clitheroe at double as four-some Holbeach United end losing streak in style

Holbeach United emphatically ended their run of seven ChromaSport UCL Premier Division losses on the spin with a 4-0 win over Kirby Muxloe on Saturday.

The Tigers were in dominant form at Carter’s Park and led 2-0 at half time thanks to goals from Jake Clitheroe (33) and Aaron Eyett (38).

Clitheroe’s second of the game 16 minutes from time effectively ended the game as a contest, before Stacy Cartwright rifled home the fourth direct from a free kick in the closing minutes.

The win leaves Holbeach seventh in the table ahead of their season finale at home against Wisbech Town on Wednesday night (7.45pm). A win would see them finish fourth, but defeat would drop them down to eighth place.

Before then, there’s the small matter of the UCL Knockout Cup final against Division One champions Peterborough Sports at Deeping on Monday (3pm).

Away from the local games, already-promoted Kempston Rovers won the UCL Premier Division title on goal difference after thrashing Boston Town 7-0.

Title rivals Leicester Nirvana won 2-1 at Eynesbury Rovers, but Kempston’s goal difference of +80 saw them home by two goals. Both sides finished on an impressive 97 points.

Meanwhile, ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division champions Moulton Harrox were handed a 3-0 home reverse by Whittlesey Athletic on Saturday.

The defeat is just Harrox’s second in the league this season – but does rivals Pinchbeck United no favours in their bid to finish second.

Ian Dunn’s Pinchbeck came from behind to beat Uppingham Town 5-1, with Nick Bishop, Liam Ogden, Tony Edwards (2) and Brad Murrell netting the goals.

Pinchbeck remain second, but they are just one point ahead of Whittlesey having played a game more.
