Chips are up for Spalding charity

A fish and chip shop has helped a local charity that’s been hit by thieves.

Westlode Fisheries on Westlode Street decided to donate 10 per cent of all its takings on Friday, August 24 to St Barnabas Hospice.

It comes after its High Street charity shop and cafe was twice targeted by thieves last month, on the eve of week long celebrations to mark one year at its new home after moving from New Street.

The family who run the shop had read about the thefts of at least £900 in The Voice and wanted to do their bit to help the charity.

The store’s Fardous Ali, said: “Luckily we’ve not had to use St Barnabas so far, but you never know if you might need it.

“They’re doing really good things and helping the community.

“We also had people in the shop telling us about how St Barnabas helped their loved ones and there was plenty of extra donations which makes it really pleasing to support this cause.”

Caroline Peach, retail manager for St Barnabas, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the support we’ve received from the community and this is another example of that.

“Thank you to Westlode Fisheries and their generous customers.”
