Cheque out Masons’ latest donation

A group that provides horse riding sessions for disabled youngsters has had a boost thanks to the Freemasons.

The local branch has donated £500 to the Fenland Riding for the Disabled Association.

Tony Stanberry, from the St Godric Lodge 7517 in Spalding, presented the cheque recently to RDA volunteers including its chair Lynne Carroll.

Mr Stanberry’s daughter Nicky Hastings, also a volunteer with the Fenland RDA Group brought along her daughter Pippa and Pippa’s pony Freddie who is one of the volunteer ponies used by the group.

Lynne Carroll said: “We’ve been running riding sessions since 1981 and we’re entirely dependent on volunteers. Even the ponies that the children ride are owned by the volunteers.

“Without the help and support of our volunteers and the local community, such as this donation from the Freemasons, we wouldn’t be able to put these sessions on so we can’t thank them enough.

“Obviously, due to the COVID restrictions at the moment, we’re unable to run riding sessions, but when we resume, hopefully in the Spring, we’ll use the money to buy new equipment.”
