Charity push in mum’s memory

A daughter’s bid to provide two new rooms for end of life in care in Spalding in memory of her mum has had a Hollywood start.

Emma Peake’s bid to raise enough money to create two new rooms in the Tulip Suite of the Johnson Hospital kicked off with a hugely successful showing of the film McQueen on Thursday, October 25.

The one-off showing of the documentary film about the fashion designer Alexander McQueen attracted over 350 people and raised a fantastic £5,500.

Emma is raising the money as a thank you for the excellent care her mum Katie experienced in the Tulip Suite in the last few weeks of her life last February.

“I’m hoping to create two new rooms.

“During the time my mum was in there the care she received was absolutely fantastic.

“It’s a vital service for this area and I was really impressed with it, but there’s a waiting list and you have to wait for a room, which is awful itself.

“That’s why they need more rooms.”

Emma has run Daisies Flower Shop for the last 27 years and was delighted to be able to launch the campaign with the film night held at the South Holland Centre.

“It was a complete sell out, which is brilliant,” she said.

“I’m a fan of Alexander McQueen’s creativity and his artistry. I’d read about the film in a newspaper and thought it sounded interesting, but it wasn’t being shown nationally.

“I thought it would be great to bring it to Spalding for a private screening.

“We served Champagne on arrival and had the most amazing time.

“We also had great support for the raffle which proved a huge success.
