Holbeach United have been handed a timely boost by skipper Jamie Clarke after he formally turned down a move to Heanor Town.
The influential skipper was the subject of a seven-day notice of approach from the Northern Counties East League Premier Division side, but has committed himself to new boss Darren Jarvis for the rest of the season.
Clarke will lead the Tigers’ attack in Saturday’s UCL Premier Division clash with Oadby Town at Carter’s Park on Saturday (3pm) – and Jarvis has told his players that there is still plenty to play for with eight games left.
“We’re delighted that Jamie is staying,” said the Holbeach boss. “It’s great news for the club.
“Heanor have been keen on him for a while, but he’s formally turned that move down now.
“He’s obviously enjoying his football here – and long may that continue.
“It’s a boost, especially as there’s so much for us still to play for. Some teams are almost done, but we’ve got eight games left. There are lots of individual and team goals for us to aim for.
“Oadby will be a tricky one, they are very unpredictable and have some talented players.
“It’s all about us building on Saturday’s win over Wellingborough and keeping that momentum going.”
Holbeach hope to have Danny Steadman back in the squad after injury, while Stacey Cartwright is another that could return.
Jarvis is still working on a deal to sign Peterborough Northern Star midfielder Jack Marsden too. He’s “hopeful” that the transfer could be wrapped up by the weekend.
