Call for action at crossroads

A woman has called for a Moulton junction to be made safer after two collisions led to injuries in a matter of weeks.

Mary Lane has lived near the East Cobgate, Hogs Gate, Cobgate and East Gate four-way junction for eight years and says she’s seen numerous incidents throughout that time.

She’d like the 60mph speed limit to be lowered or the ‘Give Way’ signs replaced with ‘Stop’ signs after seeing the most recent injuries from incident.

“I just don’t want to see them having to scrape a child off the road,” she said. “The junction is quite widely used by families and children who go to the park in Whaplode from Moulton and there are no footpaths.

“Part of the approach to the junction is round a bend and cars just seem to not stop to give way and just carry on.

“It’s not a good road anyway.

“I’ve been involved with road safety previously and I know their hands are tied and that they can only put restrictions in if, for example, someone has died.

“But it shouldn’t be like that. You try telling that to the parent of a child who has just been killed following an incident.

“There was a previous proposal to make the whole of East Cobgate 30mph but it’s gone very quiet on that.

“Even ‘Stop’ signs would make a bit of difference to the motorists and at least make them think a bit more.”

Mrs Lane is set to meet with road safety experts in the next few weeks.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council, who oversee highways in the county, said: “An officer from the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership will be meeting Mrs Lane on site in the next few weeks to discuss her concerns and look at what measures could be taken by the highways team to improve safety at the junction.”
