Shotokan Tokon Karate Club members from Long Sutton and Sleaford came away with a host of medals as they attended the Japan Karate Association England National Championships.

Some 350 competitors from all over England and Wales attended the Crawley event, with Shotokan sending a small team of seven members.

That didn’t stop them making their mark on the event, with a total of five medals – three silver and two bronze – won by the team on the day.

Silver was awarded to Emil Cope for kata and kumite, while Vicky Cope also took second place for kata. Talented nine-year-old Kamil Kulig, who is from Long Sutton, gained bronze in both kata and kumite to complete the medal winners.

Anybody that is aged over seven and interested in having a go at traditional shotokan karate in Long Sutton, Holbeach, or Sleaford should contact either Mick Lowe (07721 641023) or David Saint (07767 861057).
