Boss Hussey unhappy with Holbeach United’s attitude in bore draw

Disappointed Danny Hussey accused his Holbeach United side of not caring after seeing them miss the chance to finish fourth in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division on Saturday.

The Tigers were held to a 0-0 draw at mid-table Leicester Nirvana in their season finale, with Hussey admitting that picking up a point was more than the performance deserved.

The stalemate ensures that Holbeach finish fifth in the table, but results elsewhere meant that a victory would have seen them leapfrog rivals Pinchbeck United in the table.

Although he wasn’t overly fussed about their final league position, Hussey was angry to see how disinterested his players were both during and after the game.

He said: “I think the lads thought that the season was already over. They weren’t bothered on the pitch, it was terrible to watch.

“It was an awful performance from us and we deserved to lose the game.

“Too many of them didn’t bother playing. You can carry a couple, but it was way more than that.

“It was a poor team performance, the kind I’d have been embarrassed by when I was a player – and I’d have expected a rollocking in the dressing room.

“I walked into our dressing room and just sat down and had a listen to the lads.

“They were laughing and joking and talking about anything but football. It felt like they weren’t bothered by their showing in the slightest.

“I’d have hung my head low if I’d have been partly responsible for that kind of performance.

“It was so disappointing for me to see and you sensed they were glad the season was all but over.

“I said last week that finishing fourth wasn’t a big deal – and it isn’t. But we had a chance to finish above Pinchbeck and blew it.

“It once again showed me that I have work to do in the summer when it comes to player recruitment.

“With all due respect, we should be coming to places like this (Nirvana) and winning games. We need to be more consistent and have the right attitude.”
