Book free place now for voluntary sector forum in Spalding

LCVSThe introduction of Universal Credit in South Holland is one of the subjects on the agenda at a free networking and information event for community organisations.

Free tickets are now available for Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service’s (LCVS) second South Holland Voluntary Sector Forum.

The event will include two guest speakers as well as creating an opportunity for community organisations and those that involve volunteers to get to know each other, swap tips and learn about how they can work together to achieve their goals.

Kate Alexander, secretary of Spalding People’s Parade and fundraiser for Spalding branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind, came along to the first forum, held in March, and found it valuable.

She said: “I thought it was really good and so useful. I loved the fact everybody got to say where they were from and what they did.

“I learned a lot about how organisations can work together. For example, the Blind Society was there and I saw opportunities for us to work in conjunction. There were other organisations there I hadn’t even known about before.

“In addition, I  learned about LCVS and what it offers including the help available with DBS checks.”

LCVS works to help community-minded individuals and groups to get established, achieve their goals and flourish through providing support with paperwork and governance, resources, sourcing funding and finding and training volunteers.

The Voluntary Sector Forum takes place at South Holland District Council’s offices in Spalding on Tuesday, May 26 (1.45pm to 4.15pm).

It includes a presentation and question and answer session with Nicoya Palastanga, a Welfare Reform Project Manager.

David Fannin, LCVS chief executive, said: “Welfare reforms have an impact on the users of so many of the organisations we work with. We wanted to create an opportunity for them to ensure they are well informed and ready to signpost and advise those they assist.”

Jeanne Sibley, of Long Sutton Market House, will also be giving us a presentation about all the services it houses and provides.
