  • Seniors’ section: Spalding’s senior men continued their solid form with a 5-3 win over their counterparts from Lincoln Golf Club at the Surfleet course.

Captain Peter Jullien and his partner Keith Holland started the ball rolling with a 2-1 win, before Rick Edwards and John Cretney, Dave Haltech and Lester Pybus and Jim Dobson and Peter Dewar all claimed wins to seal the success.

It’s now 11 wins, 11 losses and two draws for Spalding’s seniors this season.

  • Ladies’ section: Some 23 ladies entered for the first 18 holes of the 27-hole Mary Hendry medal competition (although not all completed all 27 holes).

The competition standard scratch went out to 76, but the winner with a net 113.5 was Tilly Garfoot. Second, on 116.5, was Elaine Hancock, with Nicky Weller taking third.

  • The Ladies’ Summer Am-Am saw 32 teams of four battle it out in good summer weather.

The competition was a Stableford on 90 per cent handicap, with three scores to count on the first nine holes and only two on the back nine.

The winners were Cathy Lee, Louise Bradley, Sandra Wildmore and Lisa Hollingsworth with 90 points.

Second went to Lorraine Robinson, Mandy Lees, Mairead Scott and Alison Ravenhill (86), with Gillian Lamming, Sheila Goldstein, Chris Sherriff and Ann Hodgson third with 84.

There was also a twos competition, with Corinne Boyd, Rosemary Brayshaw, SJ Hennigan, Sue Owen, Chris Parker and Margaret Theakston scoring on the ninth. Two ladies – Louise Bradley and Monica Dorrington – also scored on the 16th.

The club’s thanks go to the ladies’ committee and all of the other helpers who made sure the day ran without a hitch.
