Billiards round-up: Awesome foursome get new season under way with five-star showings

Four sides picked up five points on the opening night of the new Spalding and District Billiards League season on Monday.

Rob Childs (O240) made breaks of 43, 41 (twice) and 35 (twice) as Crowland B defeated Consti C 5-2, with Alan Hansard (R70) hitting a 24 break in reply.

Gosberton A defeated hosts Holbeach A by the same score, despite veteran cue ace Hugh Pinner (O100) making breaks of 37 and 29 in the opening frame.

Also on-song were Holbeach B, with Gosberton B handed a 5-2 home reverse. An unfinished 20 break from Tony Blanchard (R50) settled the one in the final frame, edging out Marcus Pell (O10) despite his scores of 25 and 24.

Holbeach C’s 5-2 triumph at Pyramid A rounded off the week. Eric Wyer (R70) made a 21 break in that one.
