Bikers join forces to help Jayden (11) salute granddad

An 11-year-old who recently lost his granddad in a motorcycle accident has properly saluted his memory thanks to a group of South Holland bikers.

Emma Andrew of Pinchbeck saw a Facebook post from Jayden Mumby’s mum Cirsty, saying how her son has been saluting any motorbike that goes past in memory of his granddad Dave Mumby.

Dave, from, Boston died in a three vehicle collision on August 19 last year.

On Sunday, March 24, Emma, a number of bikers including fellow members of the Spalding based Dave’s Bike Night Club got on their bikes and rode to the Queen of Spades pub in Boston where the family were waiting.

Around 40 bikers took part in all and they also brought presents for the family.

“It was totally amazing,” mum Cirsty said. “We didn’t expect anything like that.

“What they did has made such a difference to him.

“Since losing my dad, Jayden became slightly scared of bikers but still every time he came back he’d salute them.

“We were in the park near the pub and hearing then seeing all these bikes coming towards us was fantastic.

“He loved it and sat on them, even having a ride on them at the end.

“Jayden was shocked and just amazed so many people came out just for him.

“It’s something he will remember forever and the memory will follow him wherever he goes.”

Emma, a mother of three, said her whole family rides bikes and all compete in the sport of motocross.

She said: “We’d heard about Jayden saluting and saying ‘I love you granddad ‘every time he saw a bike and it just broke my heart.

“I felt like we had to do something and we did it as a surprise for him.

“We set out from the Red Lion in Spalding to the Queen of Spades in Boston where Jayden and his family were.

“It was a really lovely moment and nice to show a bit of biker respect.”
