LETTER: Pinchbeck surgery expansion should be on better site

In response to “Surgery expansion plan to be revived” (May 25) I would like to ask the residents of Pinchbeck if they believe that the proposed extension will provide the medical amenities needed in a village of already over 5,000 residents at the current site, in the no through road of Church Walk – with limited access, or do we ...

Row over Sikh with 3ft ceremonial sword in supermarket

Calls for tolerance, education and to remain united have been made after a heated social media debate over a Sikh man photographed wearing a large sheathed ceremonial sword in a supermarket. The law allows knives to be carried in public for specified good reasons – including in the case of a Sikh carrying a kirpan, a religious symbol worn by ...

LETTER: Actually, Hayes is MY voice

It is clear that the Corbyn fans and EU Remainers can’t bear the fact that we have had an MP for the past 20 years who knows and cares about the place he represents.   It must annoy his opponents that John Hayes doesn’t fit the biased stereotype of what a Conservative should be – ie from a privileged background ...

A woman accused of having cannabis in Holbeach with intent to supply has changed her plea to guilty. Caroline Kelly Moxon (40), of Moulton Washway, Fosdyke Bridge, admitted the charge surrounding 10.05 grams of the drug on September 19, 2016. She had previously denied the offence but before Boston magistrates on May 26 Moxon entered a guilty plea. She was ...

LETTER: A reminder of Labour Party policies

I feel it necessary to respond to Craig Jackson’s endorsement of Mr Hayes.   Whilst I recognise the democratic decision to vote to leave the European Union, I do not consider Theresa May is adequately equipped to handle the Brexit negotiations. This has been made abundantly clear by her stark refusal to enter into a face to face live ...

LETTER: Defacing of Labour poster a disgrace

I am very distressed to learn that our Labour poster has been defaced in the beautiful and tranquil village of Moulton Chapel, where our valiant candidate, Wojciech (Voyteck) Kowalewski resides. It is a disgrace and there is absolutely no excuse for such vile and small minded behaviour.   I have previously alluded to the bias against our party in ...

LETTER: A resident’s viewpoint on Local Plan

Many residents of Spalding and the wider area of South Holland will be aware of the Government and the Lincolnshire County Council’s proposals for a large building programme, namely the South East Lincolnshire Local Plan (SELLP). Here in Spalding, and due to South Holland District Council’s failure to maintain their five-year building programme, the Local Plan has been commissioned with ...

LETTER: Another five years of austerity or Corbyn as PM?

Thank you for publishing my letter in which I introduced Wojciech (Voyteck) Kowalewski our Labour parliamentary candidate. I was disappointed to receive scathing, negative and sceptical comments online from people with respect to the party that I hold dear. One of my detractors is local well-known UKIP man Paul Foyster. It is incredible, in the full sense of the word, ...

LETTER: If Hayes is so popular, why must he rely heavily on cronies for quotes?

I couldn’t help but notice that in last week’s edition (May 25), there was a full page advert by the Conservative Party, demonstrating all the wonderful things that our illustrious MP has done over his time in the role. I can’t deny that he clearly seems to have done something for the area, or else people wouldn’t be voting for him. ...

LETTER: Read all the manifestos, listen to debate – and please vote

Politics is boring? For anoraks like me it’s fascinating, for the rest of the population, it’s just essential. The existence and quality of democracy is what defines a free people. During the last few months I’ve been told many times that it’s not worth voting because ‘nothing changes’, ‘it does not affect me’, or ‘I’ve no interest’. People take more ...

LETTER: Vote Labour on a crucial day for every manufacturing worker in UK

With the General Election almost upon us, it is vital what is at stake for the next five years and beyond. I work in the auto industries sector and I will be voting for a future for manufacturing jobs as I feel Labour are committed to working for the UK’s manufacturing industries. Labour is committed to an industrial strategy that ...

LETTER: Just whose voice does Hayes represent?

I, like most people in South Holland and The Deepings, received a leaflet from John Hayes last week. Emblazoned across it many times is ‘The People’s Voice’ but whose voice is he representing? Is he the voice for those who rely on the NHS and Social Care? No, he voted against better funding for both. Is he the voice for the ...

LETTER: I fear a Tory landslide victory will kill off democracy

I must express my concern at the prospect of a Conservative landslide victory at the forthcoming General Election killing off democracy as we know it in this country. The people of Boston and Skegness and South Holland and the Deepings returned the UK’s two highest ‘Leave’ results in the Referendum last year, primarily to take back control of our borders and be in charge ...

LETTER: Short-sighted decision on verge cutting must be reversed

As another resident of West Elloe Avenue I have to agree with Graham Petts (Voice, May 18). Whilst in times of austerity, limited funds have to be used where they serve the majority of council tax payers most effectively this decision is very short-sighted. It is common knowledge (broken window syndrome) that where areas are allowed to decline eventually that ...

LETTER: Welcome endorsement of Hayes from UKIP branch chairman

So, UKIP (Voice letters, May 18) finally recognise the pointlessness of standing here. It was good to see Paul Foyster’s endorsement of John Hayes, whose well-known record of Eurosceptism over many years is clearly shared by the many local electors who voted Leave in last year’s referendum. As is acknowledged, only a vote for John Hayes will ensure we get ...

Former England rugby captain’s clothing brand coming to Springfields

Former England rugby union captain Phil Vickery is opening a branch of his popular clothing brand at Springfields Outlet Shopping in Spalding.   Raging Bull is expected to open in mid-July and is another good addition to the centre’s big names such as Next Outlet, Ernest Jones Outlet Collection, Fatface and Starbucks.   Raging Bull, founded by Vickery in 2003, ...

LETTER: Hayes should not put his name to this ‘will of the people’ nonsense

I’ve a lot of respect for John Hayes’ record as our constituency MP. I wish I could say the same for his election leaflet. He writes: “I believe in positive politics”, and declares his readiness to “work in partnership with representatives of other political persuasions”. Admirable sentiments both. But open it up and there – highlighted in red – is ...
