Andrews provides the sunshine before the rain

A stunning nearly run-a-ball century by Carl Andrews was a bright spark amid a rain hit Saturday for Spalding Town’s 2nd and 3rd XIs on Saturday.

Skippering Spalding 3rd on Saturday, Andrews hit 18 fours in his 109 ball 103 in the South Lincolnshire and Borders League Division Two clash against Grantham 3rd.

There was also a particularly fruitful partnership with Nigel Gardener who opened the batting and carried his bat for a fine supporting 69 not out as Spalding posted 212 for 4 from their 45 overs.

Sadly, however, the weather meant that just one over of the Grantham reply was possible and they finished 7 without loss, Spalding claiming 13 points to the 10 given to Grantham.

* Spalding 2nd’s South Lincolnshire and Border League Division match at home to Heckington was also abandoned due to the rain, 30 overs into the visitors’ innings.

Both Heckington openers Jake Ellis and Liam Probert had scored 51 before being ousted by Ajay Nath (1-16)and caught and bowled by Cameron Ray (1-38) respectively.

That partnership broken, Eddie Seymour had taken 3-41 to bring his team into it before the rain brought proceedings to an end prematurely.

* The following day there was a victory for Spalding Sunday 2nd over Bourne 2nd in Rutland League Division Three.

After electing to bat first, the Spalding innings was led from the start by captain Jon Manton.

He and Ethan Lawrence (21) gave their side a good start before three quick wickets went down.

Decent showings from Josh Lawrence (15) and a fine 37 from Chris Dring alongside a well worked 60 from Manton helped Town to 170 when they were bowled out in the 43rd over.

Bourne’s Richard Hewitt claimed 5-24 from 10 overs.

Despite a similarly excellent knock of 70 from Bourne opener Daniel Whadcock, Spalding were able to restrict the home side to 150 all out with Jonah Gill to the fore with 4-33 from 11. There was also wickets from Jay White (2-13), Spyke Stainton (1-21) and Josh Lawrence (1-45).
