Act II shares its view on events of 2020

Spalding based Act II Theatre Company is bringing some welcome festive cheer with the news that their popular annual Revue won’t be falling victim to the COVID-19 cancellation curse.

This screwy, satirical look at the year’s news, events, celebrity gossip and political mishaps has been a pre-Christmas fixture since 2013 and regular attendees will be relieved to know that, despite everything 2020 has thrown at us; the show will go on.
Director Charlotte Gernert said: “Clearly the last few months have been an incredibly challenging time for everyone, so we felt that, more than ever, we needed to give people a good old laugh.
“Putting on the Revue is one of the highlights of our year and we’re so pleased we’re able to make it happen despite the pandemic.
“We’re hugely grateful to the Vista for providing a great venue so we can give our audience a very safe, yet enjoyable performance.”
Donning dodgy wigs and uncanny accents will be actors Karl Gernert, Jo Wheatley, Penelope Harrall and Kevin Arnold.
Naturally, a certain global pandemic and various responses will feature, but anyone suffering from COVID-fatigue needn’t worry though as plenty of other 2020 topics will be up for a satirical slating: world news, national news, and of course, local.
Charlotte added: “We’re aware that many people won’t be able to celebrate the festive period as usual this year, with many pantomimes and Christmas concerts not taking place.
“We really hope to welcome back all our Revue regulars, and also fill a gap for anyone else looking for a cracking pre-Christmas night out.
“As with previous Revues, nothing is off limits; so expect strong language, grown-up content and the biggest laugh you’ve had since March!”
On a serious note, Act II Theatre Company are planning very carefully for their first post-pandemic show and this COVID-safe performance will take place with social distancing, limited audience members and a spaced out, cabaret style seating.
Due to limited ticket sales, pre-booking is necessary. Tickets will not be available on the door.
Due to the mature content, this show is recommended for ages 16+ only.
The Revue 2020 takes place at St Nicolas Hall, The Vista, Spalding, PE11 2RA from December 18-20 at 7pm and 9pm.
Tickets are £6 from liz@act2online.co.uk, the Act II Facebook page or 01775 766921.
